New National Technical Director and National Coach

The FSL Conseil d’Administration is thrilled to announce that the new season will start with both a new National Technical Director (DTN) and a new National Coach. We are beyond grateful to have the opportunity to employ permanently a professional whose aim will be to elevate squash environment, infrastructure, focusing especially on junior outreach and development. And we are very proud we can provide the National Program players with the excellency and experience the National Coach brings with him.

Christopher Votion, the new Technical Director.

With over 15 years of experience in squash development, Christopher has held key roles from club management to leading major international events, including the 2022 World Junior Squash Championships in Nancy.

A former high-level player and certified coach, he managed a squash club, developed youth programs, and coordinated large-scale projects as Technical Coordinator for the Grand Est Squash League (2018–2025).

Now as the National Technical Director of the Luxembourg Squash Federation, he will focus on building strong training pathways, enhancing elite performance, and promoting squash nationwide. As he says himself, „I’ve been lucky enough to spend over 15 years doing what I love – growing squash. From running my own club to organising the 2022 World Junior Squash Championships in Nancy, I’ve met incredible people and shared amazing moments on and off court. I’ve worked with kids, pros, and everyone in between, always with the same goal: help them improve and enjoy the game”. Regarding his new job in Luxembourg he underlines „I’m excited to keep building squash together – with passion, teamwork, and a smile”.

Tomi Niinimäki, the new National Coach.

Coming from Helsinki, he is an internationally experienced coach, with outstanding qualifications. A former Finnish junior player up until his 20s, which is when he was requested to assist with the national teams coaching in Finland. He worked with such players as Olli Tuominen and Emilia Soini, or Simon Rösner and Raphael Kandra (when he moved to Paderborn, Germany, in 2012); he also coached in Sydney, Australia. Recently employed as a senior advisor for the Swedish Squash Association, where his role evolved around national teams, coaching and club development, but also finding ways how to improve existing systems and projects.

His job in Luxembourg as the National Coach will be quite similar, covering the National and Elite squash program; growing the number of coaches, squash instructors, squash activators nationwide as well as finding ways how to make the clubs more vibrant and squash more popular.

Here’s what Tomi says about his future in Luxembourg squash, „I’m very excited starting to work for the Luxembourg Squash Association! I’ve been working on several different fields of squash in the past and this role allows to pretty much combine earlier experiences and try to put everything to action to deliver the best possible outcome for squash in Luxembourg. Squash is heading to an entirely new phase now after the inclusion to the Olympics and this gives us a fantastic opportunity to build an elite squash program and a competitive national team to Luxembourg. I’m really looking forward on getting to meet and work with all of you and I’m sure we can make a positive and long lasting impact during the first season already.”

Our two newcomers will cooperate to develop, promote and expand our sport in Luxembourg, to the benefit of the entire squash community.

The FSL CA will support you however we can, Christopher and Tomi. Wëllkomm a vill Gléck!
